Greetings, All! Today & tomorrow, we begin the celebration of appx 12,000 visitors to our tiny island. And all I hear is how bad traffic will be. No commentary re number of visitors who may hopefully be repeaters in years ahead. Oh, no! Just inconvenience we will experience b/c global warriors want 2c what we're all about & selected this destination as a favored spot, whether from word-of-mouth, recommendation, or research. C'mon, fellow Virgin Islanders, roll out red carpet. Our livelihood depends on it! Have u heard any news lately? We have hard choices to make & they chose 2 spend an entire day with us! Drum roll ... all ashore!
P.S. Let's keep Boston's Mur in our thoughts; she's in consultation today for life's challenges!
I'm here to give my humble insight into life as we know it in the US Virgin Islands, namely St. Thomas. I also thought I should add my two cents on acai, my new found best friend, in the robust juice blend called MonaVie!
Interesting that you mentioned rolling out the red carpet to the visitors... and cruise ship passengers hopefully spending their day and hopefully lots of their money while visiting the island. With the economy being so dependent on tourism, and with St. Thomas being one of the most popular ports in the Caribbean, a continued effort should be placed on ensuring people are NOT intimidated or afraid to venture out based on the negative impact of some of the recent activity amongst some of the youth on the island. A continued effort should be made to encourage them and provide places for them as well as activities to focus on and direct their energies in a more productive manner and hopefully this will help to change their actions. The future of our islands is in their hands and if we continue to be dependent on tourism, the statistics and negative reports on the lawless activity may severely impact the future of tourism - the major income generator for our island.
